A tourist out for the day
Peering over the edge
One foot on familiar ground
On the public side of the rail
They told me dreams must have corners
There's safety in numbers when ambition and reality collide
But if you don't look over the ledge
You can't see what's on the other side.

Constant
New variables
A dying star
A fixed point in space
Tossed like a cigarette from a passing car
With no constant
We are lost in the ether
With no way home
No final rest.

Tossed like a cigarette from a passing car
With no constant
We are lost in the ether
With no way home
No final rest.

Refresh
One click to change your life
At least for a moment
Each shorter than the last
Tell me what to think
And the mediocre becomes brilliant
The unplanned the only game in town
At least for a moment
Each shorter than the last
Tell me what to think
And the mediocre becomes brilliant
The unplanned the only game in town

Voicemail
We have two voices
One for the message
The other hidden under our breath
Don't let the ghost escape
To haunt the machine
Like a distant shadow on a dying reel
Please wait for the tone
It's not over till it beeps.

Modern Pharisee
I do the right things
I hate the right people
Go to the right church
If you want to know your place
Look at you then look at me
I am a modern Pharisee
I hate the right people
Go to the right church
If you want to know your place
Look at you then look at me
I am a modern Pharisee

Reason
Nothing but the hunger
No answer from within
When every door seems to be closing
Do I kick one in?
Looking for direction on a one way street
When there's no one to ask
And reason is on the last bus
Leaving us standing at the corner
Why did I think it time to leave?
There was a promise of an end
But when it makes no sense
Life beyond reason is the place to be.
No answer from within
When every door seems to be closing
Do I kick one in?
Looking for direction on a one way street
When there's no one to ask
And reason is on the last bus
Leaving us standing at the corner
Why did I think it time to leave?
There was a promise of an end
But when it makes no sense
Life beyond reason is the place to be.

I'm No Abraham
It's all gone to hell
The promise hanging by a thread
I'm packing up and going home
Did Abraham flinch at the road ahead?
What's that you say - it's in my head?
It's hard to hear when I look around
Trampled like an empty box on the ground
But Abraham trusted the blessed sound
I thought there was a plan?
Places to be - things to do man
Hitch-hiking down an endless line
Abraham waited way past time
I want to help - I really do
Saving for a rainy day
Just need a little for myself
Abraham ready to give it all away.
The promise hanging by a thread
I'm packing up and going home
Did Abraham flinch at the road ahead?
What's that you say - it's in my head?
It's hard to hear when I look around
Trampled like an empty box on the ground

Falling
I sorted the books on the shelf
You knocked them down
One by one, sometimes like a waterfall
But will I put them back
Or let You rearrange?
You knocked them down
One by one, sometimes like a waterfall
But will I put them back
Or let You rearrange?

Song of a Semi-Free Man
Shadow boxer running from the fight
Two wrongs never make a right
Pretending not to give a damn
Just another semi-free man
I know the answers, I've read the book
But too often I don't give it a second look
When I'm pressed up against the wall
With nowhere left to fall
Still dreaming of life unleashed
Surrender to be released
But until I'm ready to let go
I'll never know
Two wrongs never make a right
Pretending not to give a damn
Just another semi-free man
I know the answers, I've read the book
But too often I don't give it a second look
When I'm pressed up against the wall
With nowhere left to fall
Still dreaming of life unleashed
Surrender to be released
But until I'm ready to let go
I'll never know

Waking
I feel the pressure of their gaze
But is it only my reflection
On when I was happy and all together?
Left to guess I'm usually wrong
Long to be lost in endless production
But what did I really do before I stopped to stare?
Numbers and someone else's words on a page
Now I am awake - to birth and not remake.
But is it only my reflection
On when I was happy and all together?
Left to guess I'm usually wrong
Long to be lost in endless production
But what did I really do before I stopped to stare?
Numbers and someone else's words on a page
Now I am awake - to birth and not remake.
